My name is Julian Andre.
I grew up obsessed with food since I was a little kid—watching Barefoot Contessa, Emeril, Giada De Laurentiis, and Mario Batali from the time I got home until late in the evening. All the while intently studying (and later critiquing) my mom’s cooking.
Through high school and college, I studied music as my main focus, then later studied photography and filmmaking—and eventually made a career out of it. All the while, I was obsessing over food in the background: honing techniques, reading, learning the science behind it, hosting dinner parties for friends and family, and wanting to be involved in food in some way.
It was through this fixation on the finer details of cooking—the pursuit of flavor, balance, salt, fat, acid, umami, and all the small things that make food sing—that I began to grow in a real way as a cook.
I’m still very much a student of the culinary arts, but I’ve found a way to combine my love for food, filmmaking, and music and turn it into my YouTube channel, Jandre.
